Position Summary

The Lab Specimen Accessioner ensures that the procedures for proper specimen identification and labeling of specimens are strictly followed. All Lab Accessioners  must guarantee the proper specimen, volume, and specimen type are being prepared for the proper patient and the indicated test procedure. All Lab Accessioners must consistently complete documentation of the work performed including:  requisition paperwork, specimen reception, specimen accessing and tracking.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

The essential functions include, but are not limited to the following:

• Responsible for accurate processing of patient specimens including receipt and data entry into the Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS).
• Follows all written Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
• Labels specimens and transports to the laboratory sections to be tested.
• Performs clerical duties necessary to process specimens.
• Responsible for all documentation required for the tasks performed.
• Ensures proper and complete patient identification on requisitions and specimen labels.
• Prepares specimens for delivery and specimen collection kits as needed
• Properly operates scanning equipment
• Completes required training courses such as Biosafety and HIPAA in a timely manner.
• Attends staff meetings and in-service sessions to assure job competency and communication.
• Performs accessioning review on a designated basis.

Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities)

• High school diploma or equivalent
• Minimum 1 year Accessioning experience in a Clinical Diagnostics lab
• Ability to distinguish between various types of collection containers
• Prior knowledge of laboratory tests

Shifts

4-8 hour shifts
M-F and weekend availability required
Daytime, Mid-shift, Overnight
Job Type: Full-time & Part-time available

Compensation

$25/hour
Paid Holidays; PTO; Health, Dental, Vision; 401k (FT only)
