FAQs
What type of testing does renegade.bio offer?

renegade.bio offers COVID-19 virus testing using our high-throughput molecular testing methodology.

How does the test work?

Our test uses the RenegadeXP™ method, which we’ve optimized to improve turnaround time and throughput. Our test can determine whether the virus is active in the mucosal secretions from sputum, nasal, and oral swabs. It uses a technique called qRT-PCR, which stands for quantitative reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction.

Where is testing being done?

We’re currently processing tests at our CLIA-certified laboratory in Oakland, and our partner’s CLIA-certified laboratory in New York City.

What’s involved in sample collection?

The test requires a throat, nasal, or sputum sample. Samples can be collected by physicians or other qualified personnel, or we can provide onsite sample collection. Results are securely transmitted to your physician within 48 hours using a HIPAA-compliant protocol.

How does onsite sample collection work?

We provide your organization access to our preferred vendors, who work closely with your team to bring collections to your site, including all necessary equipment and required safety precautions.

Who are you testing?

We are working to ensure safety for all by testing members of community-based organizations and employees whose organizations are returning to work.

How accurate is the test?

Our test is 99.2% accurate and has a limit of detection of <12.5 copies/μL.

What are you doing with my data?

Our CLIA-regulated laboratories meet all HIPAA requirements. Results are reported to patients via the requisitioning physician in an encrypted form. Results are also reported to the local public health departments in accordance with CDC and FDA guidelines.

What do I do if I test positive?

Should you receive a positive result, we recommend that you contact your primary physician to inform them of your status. They will recommend isolation and can provide medical advice on treatment based on your symptoms.

Can I get a test if I’m not symptomatic?

All tests require a doctor’s order. If you think you were exposed to someone who has COVID-19 or you work in an essential job, you may be eligible for a screening test, meaning testing done when a patient has no symptoms and is being monitored as a preventative measure.

Is a screening test covered by my insurance?

We do not bill insurance companies at this time. However, many insurance companies will reimburse without preapproval for screening and diagnosis. You’ll need to check with your insurance company to see if they will cover the COVID-19 screening test.

Do you provide a requisitioning physician to administer and receive testing results?

We do not have an on-staff physician, though we can provide referrals to preferred vendors for requisitioning purposes if required in your location.

Do you also offer the antibody test?

At this time, we are working to bring serology (antibody) testing into our facilities. We are awaiting guidance from the CDC and the FDA on the validity of antibody tests and how important they will be for determining immunity to COVID-19.

Is your test approved by the FDA?

We are permitted to perform our test under the policy set forth by the FDA.
